day one

Dorion's Canyon Country Birding Festival The Dorion Birding FestivalLov
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT REGISTRATION IS CLOSED FOR DAY ONE! DAY TWO STILL OPEN

Excited to have Ethan Meleg this year as a guest speaker!  A wonderful addition to the 2013 Fe
stival!

GREAT BIRDS!        GREAT PEOPLE!           GREAT FOOD!
Dorion's Canyon Country Birding Festival is for you!
We had our inaugural year in 2009, and it was a great success. Organizers felt that with an area so rich in bird species
and natural beauty, birders would welcome the chance to attend a Birding Festival here.

Local residents have a long history of bird watching, and for  the past few  years,
area residents have placed second in Ontario for recorded checklists in the Great Backyard Bird Count.

The 2012 Festival was great!  We had increased attendance, and regardless of a "bit" of rain on Sunday, we had a blast!  We recorded 110 species.  The bird list will be updated very soon, so keep an eye on it for this years birds.

PLEASE NOTE:  Your Day One tickets include the "up with the birds" option (please select on Registration page)  Just make sure you bring your tickets with you to the hall at 8 for registration.

early birdsing about.com  Those who are "up with the birds" , will have a chance to say good morning to them!  We are offering these early birds a hike at Hurkett Cove Conservation Area parking lot at 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 25th prior to the official opening of  the Festival.  A guide (or guides), will be at the Cove to lead a hike.  Anyone wanting to do this, is responsible for their own transportation, and will be asked to return to the Dorion Community Centre by 8 a.m. for Registration and a delicious breakfast.  There, they will join the rest of the birders for an official introduction and start to the day.

snowy plover
In May of 2009, a Snowy Plover was
sighted near the Hurkett Cove
 Conservation Area.
This bird has never been seen before
 in the Thunder Bay area.
It is assumed this particular bird was blown off course.  A very fortunate sighting for
a few lucky individuals!
